Dr. Paul Gauer, DVM
“I have always loved animals and pets so working with them all day and learning how their bodies work fascinates me. Everyday, I feel like I am making a difference in the lives of not only my pet patients, but also their human families as well.”
Dr. Paul Gauer grew up by the Mississippi River in Ramsey, Minnesota, and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Minnesota in 1993. He founded the Ham Lake Veterinary Hospital in 2005, and in 2014 his wife Dr. Amy Green Gauer started the Isanti Pet Clinic. When away from the office Dr. Gauer enjoys spending time with Amy, whether it’s golfing, canoeing the BWCAW, or spending time with Amy’s grown triplet sons. He also likes getting out in the woods with Grizz, his german shorthair pointer, who also comes to the office with him daily.

“The greatest compliment that I have ever received from a client is that our clinic staff acts as the hands and feet of Jesus. I was so touched by this because as new veterinarians, we take an oath to improve animal welfare and it was affirmation that we have not lost sight of our true purpose.”
Dr. Amy Green Gauer prefers to use her maiden name professionally so as not to be confused with the “original” Dr. Gauer. Free time for the Gauers means family time. We love to get together with our three boys, aunts, uncles and extended family for board games, cards, billiards and backyard barbecue. We also spend time fishing and camping as a family. Dr. Green has had many pets in her lifetime. She has adopted mostly dogs and cats but has also had a corn snake named “Checkers” and a rat named “Squeakers.” She currently has a feisty little Shih Tzu Bichon Frise crossbreed named Suki Jo and a softhearted GSP named Grizz.
Dr. Teaha Chestnut, DVM
“The human-animal bond is one of life’s greatest gifts, so I am very thankful that I get to work with animals and help celebrate this bond every day of my life.”
Dr. Teaha Chestnut graduated from Kansas State University – College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. After completing an internship at Nestle Purina Product Technology Center in Saint Joseph, MO, she began her career as a general practitioner in Kansas City. In 2016, she followed her boyfriend to Minnesota, and soon after became part of the Ham Lake Veterinary Hospital/Isanti Pet Clinic family. Free time is filled with exploring Minneapolis’s numerous breweries and restaurants, and running through the city’s beautiful parks and trails. She currently has no pets, but has owned dogs and rabbits for much of her life. Thankfully, being a veterinarian means she still gets her daily dose of puppy kisses and tail wags.
